SEMI ANNUAL HOME SAFETY CHECK
|
It's crazy to think that we are already HALFWAY through the year! What a CRAZY year it has been! Here are some things around your home you should be checking!
MONTHLY Inspect, clean and replace HVAC filters. Clean all sink disposals and clean unwanted hair out of drains. Clean your stove's range hood filters. You would be amazed at the difference a new filter can make! Check your fire extinguishers and make sure you know how to properly use them!
QUARTERLY Test smoke/carbon dioxide detectors. They should have a "test" button and take less than a minute to check! Make sure there is no corrosion around or on the battery itself. Run water in sinks that you may not use often to prevent grime and buildup. (Think garage or basement sinks) Check water softener and add salt if needed.
BIANNUALLY Test your water heater's pressure relief valve - it safeguards against leaks and helps your heater run more efficiently. Deep clean your home. Clean all the nooks, crannies, windows and rooms. Replace all batteries in your smoke/carbon dioxide detectors. This is something that doesn't need to be done, but I would personally be more safe than sorry. Vacuum your coils on the back of your refrigerator. Rumor is, you can save around $100 a year on your bills by doing this! Who doesn't love to save money?

THE BEST SUMMER SAFETY TIPS FOR PARENTS
|
Summer days are made for kids, and swimming, biking, and sports are always the go-to activities of choice during warmer months. And thanks to the ability to work remotely, it's easier than ever for parents to get out of the house, get some work done, and enjoy some time in the sun.
But keeping children safe in the summer sun-and heat-requires some planning and extra attention, so parents need to make sure they know the best tips on keeping little ones free of sunburn and heat-related dangers. Here are the best ways to do so.

As families and kiddos head out into the water for primetime swimming season, it's a good reminder for parents to remind and educate children about how to stay safe in the water. Remember the ABCs -
A is for Adult Supervision
B is for Barriers
C is for Classes

Every year we look forward to summer vacations, cooking out on the grill, sitting around the campfire while camping, family reunions, picnics, and the Fourth of July and fireworks. Summertime, however, also brings fires and injuries due to fireworks and improper outdoor cooking.
|
|
As the weather warms up and trips to the park become frequent, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the risks on playgrounds and how you can prevent injuries. Each year, more than 200,000 children go to the hospital ER with injuries associated with playground equipment.

With all the spring rain leading up to summer, it's no surprise that there will be some pretty wicked summer storms this year. If you're anything like us, you like to pull up a chair and watch the lightning storms (we will not tell) - but do you know what you should and shouldn't be doing? Click the link below to learn more on what to do BEFORE, DURING and AFTER a lightning storm!
All thunderstorms are dangerous. Every thunderstorm produces lightning. While lightning fatalities have decreased over the past 30 years, lightning continues to be one of the top three storm-related killers in the United States. On average in the U.S., lightning kills 51 people and injures hundreds more. Although most lightning victims survive, people struck by lightning often report a variety of long-term, debilitating symptoms.

Here's a fun and exciting new mix of both sweet and spicy! Grab a large watermelon and a ripe pineapple and cut and place in a bowl together. In your local grocery store, check the "Hispanic" isle (or find a locally owned international grocery) and grab some chamoy and tajin. Mix some of the liquid chamoy into your bowl of fruit and sprinkle tajin into it. Play around until you get the perfect mix!

My family's favorite treat to get from a summer festival is an icy cool lemon shake up. But skip the line and the hefty prices of getting one at the local summer festival and make them at home!
They are super easy and once your kids learn how to make them by themselves, they will become obsessed - meaning you will need to keep four simple ingredients on hand - fresh lemons, ice, water and sugar!
